The Bones
I have borne the hero's bones
Stack-piled high as pyramids.
And have endured the rages that tower and
Crash before us like felled sequoias.
Like a vagabond's treasure
My bones follow me in tow
And sometimes speaking say:
We are witnesses
Between the ends of light
And are as angels
Near to comfort thee;
Solace take near wood
Or lake in silence
And our company.
New moment wakes and
Reasserts the shaking now
And quickly all is one moon aged.
The bones like acrobats
Assemble upward in a glorious tower
And into silence, disappear.
